Oprah Winfrey Hosts Livestream Meeting for Kamala Harris

Following her surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention, Oprah Winfrey is hosting a major livestream next week to drum up support for Kamala Harris.

The event, called “Unite for America,” is being billed as a chance for pro-Harris affinity groups — Win With Black Women, Cat Ladies for Kamala, Win With Black Men, White Dudes for Harris, Swifties for Kamala, etc. — to come together under one banner.

Winfrey will host approximately 400 voters in person on September 19 and livestream the event on platforms including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Twitch and Instagram.

“The event will serve as a call to action to register people to vote and build support in communities across all key states ahead of November 5,” organizers said in a press release.

Many celebrities have already participated in Zoom fundraisers for Harris, which are designed to encourage supporters to take concrete steps to support the campaign.

During the 2020 pandemic, Winfrey hosted a similar virtual town hall series called “OWN Your Vote.”

Joe Biden was a guest on one of her livestreams in late October, which was aimed at getting more voters to the polls in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio.

Winfrey was a key early supporter of former President Obama in his Democratic primary against Hillary Clinton in 2007-08. At last month’s convention, Winfrey said she is a registered independent who has always “voted my values.”

“So I’m calling on all independents and all undecideds,” she said. “You know I’m telling you the truth: that values ​​and character are the most important thing, in leadership and in life… And more than anything else — you know this is true — that decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024.”
