Opening Night Live and what to expect – Destructoid

Gamescom 2024 kicks off on August 20 in Cologne, Germany, and Geoff Keighley will be opening the convention with Opening Night Live. There will undoubtedly be plenty of surprise reveals, but we do know a little about what to expect.

Gamescom Opening Night Live will be streamed on both YouTube and Twitch. It promises to be an epic show that starts at the following times depending on where you are:

  • 11:00 am PST
  • 2:00 PM EST
  • 7:00pm BST

A pre-show, hosted by Kyle Bosman, begins 30 minutes prior to Opening Night Live. This pre-show will feature additional announcements and trailers, so take a seat and get comfortable for what’s to come!

So what’s coming? Well, Keighley has already revealed some of what’s coming to Opening Night Live on Twitter, with content from the following games and developers set to feature on the show:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (First campaign playthrough)
  • Dune: Awakening (Extended look at the gameplay)
  • Dark and darker: mobile (Gameplay World Premiere)
  • The First Berserker: Khazan (New trailer)
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (New trailer)
  • inZOI (New trailer)
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (Gameplay Trailer)
  • Lost Records: Bloom & Rage (Gameplay Trailer)
  • Monster Hunter Wilds (New trailer)
  • Marvel Rivals (New Heroes and Updates)
  • Panic & Okomotive (New Intellectual Property Revelation)
  • Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (New trailer)
  • Squid Game: Unleashed (First look)

NetEase Games, which has two unannounced titles ready for visitors to play at its Gamescom booth, will also be on display at Opening Night Live alongside a creepy new title from THQ Nordic and Tarsier Studios. A teaser trailer for the latter unnamed game is already available, and it’s intriguing to say the least:

Perhaps the most exciting reveal at the event, at least for me, is a new trailer for Little Nightmares III. The upcoming sequel will feature online co-op gameplay, allowing you to “face your childhood fears together.” The third game in the Little Nightmares franchise was announced at Gamescom 2023, and the development team made the decision in May 2024 to delay its release until 2025, so I’m curious to see what the new trailer will reveal.
