Open is a great opportunity for Kirkhill golf professionals to pass on tips

Kirkhill golf pro Duncan Williamson is preparing to take on the likes of Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler at the Open Championship.

But while the world’s best battle it out at Royal Troon for the chance to hold aloft the famous Claret Jug, Duncan passes on his own wisdom to budding young golfers in the ‘Swing Zone’.

As one of only 30 PGA members selected from around the world to attend golf’s most historic championship, he will use cutting-edge tracer technology to provide tips and advice to amateur golfers inspired by their heroes.

Duncan and his fellow pros are giving free 15-minute lessons to players who can digitally tackle the famous Postage Stamp hole in Troon.

The golf guru, who will be in Troon from July 14 to 19, is no stranger to The Open, having also given lessons at courses such as Carnoustie.

And Duncan revealed he may be looking for a few tips of his own: “There’s always a real buzz about The Open. I try to get to the practice area and watch the players. That’s where you see most of the action.”

Some of Kirkhill’s junior team will also be at the tournament on the Ayrshire coast, with the team reportedly flourishing under the guidance of Joe Wiley.

Duncan added: “They’re going down on Thursday so hopefully they get some inspiration.”
