“Only he and the team know the truth”

On the US Open media day journalists have focused mainly on the most discussed topic of the past few days, which is undoubtedly Jannik Sinner’s doping problemand the American Taylor Fritz also gave his opinion on this subject.

Journalists ask almost all tennis players for their opinion on the matter, as happened with Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. Fritz gave a position that in fact summarizes all the controversies in the matter, namely that in the end only Jannik and his team know the truth about what happened.

“Everyone has an opinion, but in the end it doesn’t matter because only he and his team know the truth. I want to believe that the whole investigation was done correctly. But I would like to say that there are many people who are suspended and can’t play for a certain period of time just because they skip tests. Of course, it’s very difficult to miss them three times, but there are some bizarre situations where it can happen,” said the American

Fritz added: “A lot of people get suspended for unfortunate reasons, in this case I think it was different because the suspension didn’t happen. I believe in the fact that there was nothing voluntary. I just think we need to be more consistent across the board, between who’s suspended and who’s not, between who’s disqualified and who’s not.”

The American also spoke about pickleball and wondered if it could pose a threat to tennis.

“I don’t think we have to worry. I see people in tennis who absolutely hate pickleball, but for me it’s not a problem. I like to play it occasionally, it’s fun, I don’t see why the two sports can’t coexist,” he said. Fritz’s debut in the New York Slam is scheduled for Monday, August 26 against Camillo Ugo Carabelli.
