This happened after the Australian hockey team was eliminated from the Olympic Games after losing 2-0 to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Craig was spotted just after midnight “at the bottom of a building in the 9th arrondissement,” local police said.

A witness told FranceInfo: “Police arrested two men in the middle of a transaction.”

The Paris police narcotics department is investigating the incident.

A police spokesman said: “A 28-year-old man has been arrested, along with another man.”

Craig is a veteran of the Kookaburras national team, having made 101 appearances in his 10-year career.

He hails from New South Wales and played for national junior teams, but quickly became a regular in the senior selection.

Craig was part of the team that won a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and silver at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The Australians had an inconsistent Olympic season, with victories over Argentina, Ireland and New Zealand, but defeats to Belgium, India and the Netherlands.
