Olympic gymnastics live updates: Simone Biles wins gold on vault, Stephen Nedoroscik takes bronze on pommel horse

An Olympic icon and a track star headlined the men’s and women’s individual gymnastics events at the Paris Summer Olympics on Saturday, and both walked away with medals.

Simone Biles took first place in the women’s vault final on Saturday, winning her seventh Olympic gold medal overall and third of the Paris Games. Teammate Jade Carey won bronze, giving the U.S. two spots on the podium. Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade took silver for her performance.

Meanwhile, Stephen Nedoroscik, AKA “pommel horse guy,” won the bronze medal in his signature event after earning bronze in the team event earlier in the week. Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan took gold with a 15.533, followed by Kazakhstan’s Nariman Kurbanov with a 15.433 for silver.

With her seventh gold medal, Biles added her case as perhaps the greatest Olympian of all time. Earlier at these Olympics in Paris, she led Team USA to a gold medal in the team competition and then won a second individual all-around gold medal. She is the oldest woman to win the total and only the third two-time winner.

  • Stephen Nedoroscik – the gymnast with the glasses – wins bronze on the pommel horse

Stephen Nedoroscik, the bespectacled, Rubik’s Cube-solving overnight sensation, proved he’s no one-hit wonder after claiming the United States’ first medal in the team event.

On Saturday he won his own medal, namely bronze in the individual pommel horse, as the crowning achievement of a hectic week in Paris.

Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan won gold with a 15.533, followed by Kazakh Nariman Kurbanov with a 15.433, good for silver.

Nedoroscik scored a 15.300, good for a 6.4 for difficulty and an 8.9 for execution. That was better than the 15.200 he scored in qualifying.

As his score flashed across the video screen at the Bercy Arena, Nedoroscik, again wearing his signature rims, embraced McClenaghan and the two talked about competing again at the 2028 Olympics in LA. “Do it again,” Nedoroscik said with a smile.
