Olympic Diving: Noah Williams Wins Bronze in 10m Platform

Britain’s Noah Williams made a stunning dive in the final round to take bronze in the men’s 10m platform, winning his second medal of the Paris Olympics.

Mistakes from his rivals had opened up the podium places going into the final round and Williams – who had won silver in the 10 metre synchro with Tom Daley earlier in the Games – jumped into a front somersault, earning him a score of 94.35, giving him a total of 497.35.

Cao Yuan defended his title convincingly (547.50) to give China a big win in the diving gold medals, while 17-year-old Japanese Rikuto Tamai won silver (507.65).

Britain’s Kyle Kothari finished 11th on his Olympic debut, ahead of world champion Yang Hao, who was out of form and finished last in the 12-man final.

Williams had only just made it to the final after underperforming in the semi-finals, meaning he was the first to go in every round.

That meant that after his brilliant final effort he had to wait nervously to see if it would be enough for a medal.

But when challengers such as Mexican Randal Willars Valdez made messy dives, he soon discovered he would win Britain’s only individual diving medal at these Olympics.

These were already Britain’s most successful Games in terms of diving medals, and they leave Paris with five medals.

More to come.
