Oliver Bearman replaces Kevin Magnussen at Haas for Azerbaijan Grand Prix

Britain’s Oliver Bearman replaces the suspended Kevin Magnussen at Haas for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Magnussen has been disqualified from the race in Baku (13-15 September) after exceeding Formula 1’s penalty points limit.

Bearman, who has already been confirmed as a Haas driver for 2025, will compete in his second Grand Prix.

The 19-year-old replaced Carlos Sainz at Ferrari in Saudi Arabia earlier this season after the Spaniard was taken to hospital with appendicitis.

He impressed by finishing seventh, having only driven the car for the first time on Saturday during the final practice session, a performance that was decisive for his place on the starting grid for next season.

Bearman has experience with the Haas car this season thanks to free practice at the Grands Prix of Emilia-Romagna, Spain, Great Britain and Hungary.

He said: “It’s certainly more challenging to race as a reserve driver, with limited preparation time and things like that, but I’m in the fortunate position of having done it earlier this year with Scuderia Ferrari so at least I can draw on that experience.

“I’ve also had four FP1 sessions with Haas in the VF-24 this season, so that will undoubtedly also prove valuable in tackling the full race weekend in Baku.”

Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said: “This is another excellent opportunity for both Ollie and the team to work together, this time over a full race weekend.”

Magnussen reached the 12-point penalty mark in a 12-month period after pleading guilty to a collision with Alpine’s Pierre Gasly during Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix.

The Dane is the first driver to be banned from racing since the penalty points system was introduced in 2013.

With just one seat left on the 2025 grid, at the Sauber team that will become Audi in 2026, Magnussen is expected to lose his place in Formula 1 at the end of the season.
