Ole Miss pitcher Wes Mendes enters the transfer portal

OXFORD, Madam – After losing pitchers Grayson Saunier, JT Quinn, Liam Doyleand others to the transfer portal, the Ole Miss baseball team loses another one as the rising sophomore Wes Mendes has also entered the portal. The Rebel Walk was aware of this possibility and confirmed today that it had indeed arrived.

Despite being a true freshman, Mendes saw significant time on the hump this past season, totaling 31.2 innings. He finished the year with a 6.82 earned run average and a 2-1 record while walking 19 batters and striking out 43.

The left-handed pitcher from Tampa, Florida, was used as a starter and reliever, but was expected to become a regular weekend starter next spring.

For being such a young player, Mendes’ potential is clear, so it’s a shame his future success won’t come in a Rebel uniform. I’m sure we’ll see Coach Mike Bianco recruit several pitchers from the transfer portal in the coming weeks in hopes of replacing the lost talent.

Mendes is the 14th Ole Miss player to enter the portal from last season’s team. He joins: C Trenton Lyons, RF Seth Farni, RF Treyson Hughes, RHP Grayson Saunier, RHP Corey Braun, C Eli Berch, RHP Gabe Smith, LF John Kramer, RHP Kyler Carmack, RHP Cole Tolbert, 3B Andrew Fischer, RHP JT Quinn and LHP Liam Doyle.

So far, the following players have been added to the team through the portal: Collin Reuter (BYU), RHP Will McCausland (St. Joseph), SS Luke Cheng (Illinois State) and OF Ryan Moerman (Illinois).

Stay tuned for more portal updates via The Rebel Walk!
