Old Bar Surf Club Upgrade Officially Opened

Dr David Gillespie, Federal Nationals member for Lyne, and Tanya Thompson, NSW Nationals member for Myall Lakes, attended the official opening of the recently completed renovation of the Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club.

In 2021, Dr Gillespie and the late NSW Nationals member for Myall Lakes, Stephen Bromhead, announced $425,000 in federal and state funding for an extension to the clubhouse, including improvements to first aid rooms, toilets and emergency response areas.

The funding was made available through the Australian and New South Wales Government Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Program.

Dr Gillespie said that after the devastating impact of the bushfires on the region a few years ago, the former federal and state governments worked together to develop several programs that target key areas of greatest need, to help communities rebuild and sustain themselves. This project was another successful initiative that received support.

“This project is a significant improvement for our local community as it has delivered much needed improvements to the emergency services for the Old Bar Surf Club, as well as new hospitality facilities for the club’s members, the local community and visitors to the area,” said Dr Gillespie.

“I would like to take this opportunity to once again congratulate the members of the Taree Old Bar Surf Life Saving Club on a fantastic project that they have completed well.”

Mrs Thompson said it was great to see the club thriving, thanks to the hard work of its members.

“A special word of thanks to my predecessor, Stephen Bromhead, for his involvement in this project,” said Ms Thompson.
