Obsidian developers confirm Avowed will not have 60 FPS option on console

It’s become common in modern games to give players multiple options to control a game’s performance, including increasing or decreasing the framerate to get smoother gameplay at the cost of some degraded visuals. However, not all new games have this option.

That includes the upcoming action RPG Granted from Obsidian Entertainment. Several developers spoke in depth on the Iron Lords Podcast about the game and what players can expect. When asked about the console performance of the game, the developers confirmed that they are aiming for a minimum of 30 FPS. The reason for this is that they wanted to focus more on the visuals, stating that “you don’t necessarily need those 60 frames” when playing a single-player action game.

It’s not surprising to hear that the game won’t have a 60 FPS option for a console like the Xbox Series S, given its inferior specs compared to its sister console. But for a console as powerful as the Series X, this announcement may come as a bit of a surprise. And while it’s true that it’s not a requirement for a game to run at 60 FPS, many gamers still find it important to have the smoothest visuals possible.

While the locked framerate is disappointing for console players, that doesn’t mean it will never happen. Other Xbox games like Star field And Redfall didn’t launch with a 60 FPS option on consoles, but it eventually came in future updates. If the demand is there, the developers at Obsidian might reconsider their 30 FPS promise. The game isn’t out until 2025, so there’s still plenty of time.
