Oasis warns against resale of tickets for upcoming tour

Oasis’ reunion tour will bring Taylor Swift to the UK as hundreds of thousands of people around the world are clamoring to get their hands on tickets. The band are seemingly doing everything they can to prevent fans from being ripped off by scalpers.

Oasis tweeted on Friday that they had already seen attempts to resell tickets and warned that the only tickets being sold at the show are those purchased on the primary market or via Ticketmaster and Twickets, where the ticket price is equal to face value.

“Tickets sold in violation of the terms and conditions will be cancelled by the promoters,” Oasis posted on X. Pre-sale started on Friday, with the majority of tickets going on general sale on Saturday.

Indeed, resale sites such as StubHub and Viagogo are currently listing the band’s Wembley Stadium gigs for as much as £6,347, or about $8,300. A spokesperson for Viagogo did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Exchanging tickets at face value is becoming an increasingly common way for artists to avoid scalpers and ticket brokers charging large margins on the resale market. Other artists who have adopted this strategy for their recent tours include Billie Eilish, Pearl Jam and The Cure.

The strategy helps keep ticket prices low, but it also makes it much harder for fans to get tickets if they miss out during a general sale. Zach Bryan, for example, limited resales for his Burn, Burn, Burn Tour last year, and while he said keeping prices low was a success, his social media feeds were flooded with fans angry that they had no way to get tickets after the sale.

Resellers and other critics of the strategy also argue that trade shows are not fan-friendly because they limit customers’ ticket options.

Oasis fans are on edge as they prepare for the tickets to go on sale tomorrow, with some expecting chaos as ticket buyers flood online queues to secure a spot. However, it’s worth noting that even in the most ideal circumstances, the reality is that a tour as big as Oasis’ is going to leave many fans frustrated, as long as there are more fans queuing than there are seats in a stadium.

The group’s reunion marks one of the most anticipated tours in recent history and ends a 15-year rift that was sparked by the notoriously explosive relationship between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher.

“The guns have fallen silent,” the band said in a statement about the comeback. “The stars are aligned. The great wait is over. Come see it. It won’t be televised.”
