NYSPHSAA announces S-GI and West Valley spring teams and athletes

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association recently announced its Scholar-Athlete teams and athletes for the spring 2024 term. Seven S-GI teams made the list, while four Springville athletes were scholar-athlete winners.

Elsie Fisher was a scholar-athlete awardee for Springville.

To qualify as a team, 75% of a team’s average fall GPA must be equal to or greater than 90%. Individual athletes must also meet the 90% standard.

The four Springville athlete winners were Linnea Neureuther – Girls Track and Field, Ginger Andrews – Lacrosse, Elsie Fisher – Softball and Lauren Smith – Unified Basketball.

Twenty-one honorable mention athletes were Autumn Andreeff – Softball, Lily Beaudoin – Lacrosse, Hannah Blake – Girls Track and Field, Aiden Brown – Baseball, Mark Bugenhagen – Boys Track and Field, David Dawson – Baseball, Tristan Hammer – Boys Track and Field , Graeden Heichberger – Boys Track and Field, Travis Keem – Baseball, Joel Korf – Boys Tennis, Anthony Maul – Boys Track and Field, Lilyana Meiss – Girls Track and Field, Kelsey Perkins – Girls Track and Field, Maximus Perry – Baseball, McKayla Ruhland – Lacrosse , Hunter Runser – Baseball, Aaliyah Sansone – Girls Track & Field, Otto Spielberger – Boys Track & Field, Ella Staniszewski – Girls Track & Field, Sarah Sullivan – Lacrosse and Layla Winfield – Softball.

Jack Tharnish was named an honorable mention athlete.

Springville’s seven teams included Varsity Boys Track and Field, Varsity Girls Track and Field, Varsity Baseball, Varsity Softball, Varsity Girls Lacrosse, Varsity Boys Tennis and Unified Basketball.

West Valley was recognized with eight scholar-athlete honorable mentions, while Magdalena Parish was recognized twice (Girls Track and Field, Softball). The rest of the track and field honorees included Noah Klahn, Jack Tharnish, Karson Heitman, Victoria Parish and Madison Lawrence.

Of the scholar-athletes, West Valley head softball coach and athletic director Bryan Hansen said, “These students excelled on the field and in the classroom by achieving at least a 90% average during the spring season.”
