Novak Djokovic’s motivation questioned as former coach Roger Federer comments on Carlos Alcaraz’s ‘superiority’

Former world number 3 Ivan Ljubicic believes Novak Djokovic “will definitely have the motivation” for the Paris Olympics, but is unsure about “what will happen after that.”

Ljubicic, former coach of tennis legend Roger Federer, revealed that Djokovic’s former coach Boris Becker told him he felt the Serb “accepted the superiority of Carlos Alcaraz” in the 2024 Wimbledon final.

Djokovic suffered a resounding 2-6, 2-6, 6-7(4) defeat to Alcaraz in the championship match at Wimbledon, reaching his record 37th Grand Slam final.

The 37-year-old legend underwent surgery on his right knee just over a month before reaching the final at the All England Club after tearing his meniscus at Roland Garros.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is yet to win a title in what has been a challenging 2024 season so far and – before Wimbledon – had not reached a final since his ATP Finals triumph in November.

Rafael Nadal’s uncle has delivered a brutal verdict on Novak Djokovic after Carlos Alcaraz assaulted him.

Djokovic will soon compete in the tennis tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games. This tournament will be played on clay at Stade Roland Garros from July 27 to August 4. An Olympic gold medal is the only major prize that Djokovic has not yet won in his astonishing career.

Ljubicic believes that Djokovic is finding it harder to get motivated now than when he was competing with Federer and Rafael Nadal for the biggest titles.

“For the Olympics he will definitely have the motivation, but what happens after? Without Federer, without Nadal, the circuit is a bit different for him, it’s not the same motivation,” the Croat said The team.

“Boris Becker told me that it seemed to him that Novak had practically accepted Alcaraz’s superiority, which he had never done with Rafa and Roger. We are not far from the generational change. That’s life.”

In March, Ljubicic determined that Djokovic’s problems during the difficult start to the 2024 season were mental in nature.

“His problem is psychological, he certainly hasn’t forgotten how to play tennis. No doubt ‘Nole’ must have fire in him, otherwise he misses something,” he said Sports magazine

“He is used to fighting at every point, to conquering the field bit by bit, and if he doesn’t feel those stimuli, he can get into trouble.”
