Novak Djokovic vs Carlos Alcaraz LIVE Streaming Info, Wimbledon 2024: When, Where to Watch Men’s Singles Final; Match Preview

PREVIEW

When Novak Djokovic underwent surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus on June 5, Wimbledon seemed a long way off.

The Olympic Games, which begin in Paris on July 26, seemed a realistic goal as he has long pursued the singles gold medal that his famous rivals Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray have also won.

Less than six weeks after undergoing surgery, the 37-year-old is in his 10th Wimbledon final, a record 37th in Grand Slams overall. He has the chance to equal Roger Federer’s eight singles titles at the All England Club and win his record 25th major.

Standing in his path is Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who defeated the Serb in five stunning sets in the 2023 final and has since added the 2024 Roland-Garros title – his third Grand Slam title – to establish himself as the next-generation player. number one.

Djokovic even called Alcaraz “one of the best 21-year-olds ever” after beating Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-finals.

Djokovic is the embodiment of humility and is generally generous with his praise. On court, however, he is a ruthless machine. His form has improved throughout the tournament and his confidence is such that he can slide back and change direction with ease on the slippery grass courts.

The fact that Alcaraz is not performing at his best could lead to a cat-and-mouse game.

“I try not to think that I am the reigning champion,” Alcaraz insisted. “I go into every match thinking that I have chances to lose. I know what it is like to play against Djokovic and I know what I have to do. I am sure he knows what he has to do. I am ready to take on that challenge.”

For Djokovic, the match comes at a crucial time. He has lost his last three matches against top 10 players, twice against Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud. And he has not won a title since beating Sinner at the ATP Tour Finals last November.

“History is at stake,” Djokovic said. “Roger has eight Wimbledons (and) I have seven. And also a potential 25th Grand Slam. It’s a great motivation, but it’s also a lot of pressure. (But) every time I step on the court, even if I’m 37 and competing with the 21-year-olds, I expect to win.”

In 2021, with the top matches of the European Championship and Wimbledon taking place on the same day, it was bittersweet for the Italians when Djokovic beat Matteo Berrettini before the footballers saved the day. The Spanish will have their cake and eat it too.
