Novak Djokovic considers quick return from knee injury at French Open one of the greatest achievements of his career

Former world number one Novak Djokovic has revealed that recovering quickly from knee surgery is one of his greatest achievements. The 37-year-old is regarded as the best player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won 24 Grand Slam titles.

Djokovic is having a difficult campaign, in which he has yet to play in the final of an event. The Belgrade-born star recently suffered a knee injury at the French Open, just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud. The injury forced the current world number two to withdraw from the event, which also cost him the number one position in men’s tennis.

Following the injury, Djokovic underwent surgery, which cast doubt on his participation in mega-events such as Wimbledon and the Paris Olympics. However, the 24-time Grand Slam winner has not only recovered from the injury, but has also survived in the third Grand Slam of the year, securing his place in the semi-finals after Australian Alex de Minaur was forced to withdraw due to a fitness issue.

Djokovic was quoted in a report as saying that despite having achieved so much in his career, he had recovered from a knee injury in such a short time. “Right at the top, maybe two or three, in terms of the time it took to get back to the level I wanted,” he told Tennis Channel. “It was the first time I had to deal with this kind of knee injury. I had never had a serious knee injury before and unfortunately I injured myself halfway through the match in the fourth round at Roland-Garros.”

Djokovic will face Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the semi-finals of the mega-event on Friday. In the quarter-finals, he defeated American Taylor Fritz in a five-set thriller with a score of 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. It is the seventh meeting between the two in professional tennis. Djokovic won five times in the previous six meetings and suffered only one defeat.
