Not Mitchell Starc or Pat Cummins, Australian legend Brett Lee picks Indian fast bowler as ‘Best in all formats’

Rohit Sharma and co. bask in the glory of their recent triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup, a competition they won after a gap of 17 years. India were the standout team of the T20I extravaganza as they became the first in history to win the tournament unbeaten.

One of the biggest stars of the title-winning campaign was Jasprit Bumrah, whose defining spells secured victory, including in the final against South Africa.

Bumrah finished with 15 wickets to his name and his consistent performances throughout the campaign saw him named player of the tournament.

Australian legend Brett Lee believes Bumrah is currently the best fast bowler in the world, regardless of format.

“I think Jasprit Bumrah is just exceptional. He is the best bowler in all formats at the moment and he leads the attack,” Lee was quoted as saying by news agency IANS“Bumrah can maintain an astonishing pace while playing the new ball. His tournament performances showed his leadership qualities, taking around 15 wickets with remarkable economy. He is absolutely exceptional and India deserve credit for their performance.”

Lee explains that the Indian T20I line-up contains players who can bat in any position.

“Their batting order, with players who can dominate at any position from top to bottom, speaks volumes. Their middle order is full of power and they have batters who can put runs on the board quickly,” Lee said.

Three of the World Cup winners Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have announced their retirement from T20Is, paving the way for the next generation to take over. The transition phase has already begun with a young T20I team, led by Shubman Gill, currently on a five-match tour of Zimbabwe.
