PETALING JAYA: Norza Zakaria has officially resigned as president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

This follows after he announced earlier in May during today’s council meeting that he planned to resign.

According to Bernama, BAM’s deputy chairman V Subramaniam will serve as acting chairman until the annual general meeting at the end of the current term next year, when the election of new board members will take place.

Norza, who has led BAM since 2017, had already indicated in December 2023 that he wanted to step down from his position. He had even appointed Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Zafrul Aziz as his successor.

However, after being persuaded by Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh, he agreed to stay until the Paris Olympics.
