Northwest Florida Daily News is canceling the baseball team for the entire area

South Walton’s appearance in the 4A state championship game was the highlight of the region’s baseball season, but many from around the Emerald Coast also stood out.

We are here to honor these players with the Daily News awards for all regions, and we have expanded the Player of the Year award to reflect the diversity in size of our schools in the region. Here’s the cream of the crop.

6A Hitter of the Year: Deacon Avery, Niceville

Deacon was a beacon of hope for the 14-12 Eagles, leading the team with a .403 batting average, 25 hits and 20 RBIs. Even in the season-ending district loss to rival Crestview, he went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

6A Pitcher of the Year: Anthony St. Vincent, Crestview

St. Vincent dominated in its swan song, going 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA while holding opponents to a .203 batting average and striking out 81 batters in 61 innings. St. Vincent favored him over Niceville’s Brady Martin, shutting out 12 Eagles and allowing just two points (one earned) over a full game in a 4-2 win over Niceville in the district tournament. He finished the season 2-0 against the Eagles with 24 strikeouts in 13 innings, allowing just two earned runs and 10 hits in that span.

5A Hitter/Pitcher of the Year: Hunter Tarchalski, Fort Walton Beach

The deciding factor between Fort Walton’s Tarchalski and Choctaw’s Aaron Rowell was the head-to-head statistics. Against Choctaw, Tarchalski went a combined 6-for-8 with five RBIs, two extra base hits, three free passes, four runs scored and three stolen bases to lead the Vikings to a 2-1 record against their crosstown rival. The senior also went 3-for-5 with seven RBIs and two doubles in a 12-6 win over Niceville and nearly led the Vikings to a district title after going 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 5-4 loss to Escambia. , while striking out six and allowing just three runs in five innings in a no-decision.

The two-way star finished the season with a .471 batting average, 22 RBIs, 13 runs, 10 extra base hits, a 15/7 BB:K ratio, four stolen bases and a .563/.642/1.206 slash line, all with a team-leading ERA of 2.24 and an opponent batting average of .167. He struck out 52 Ks over 34 1/3 innings.

4A Hitter/Pitcher of the Year: Coleman Borthwick, South Walton

The prized Auburn commit was both an ace and a five-tool hitter and was the face of the state’s number two Seahawks. At the plate, he hit .435 with 21 RBIs, 18 runs, 11 extra-base hits, six stolen bases and walked more than he struck out, posting a slash line of .547/.597/1.145. On the mound, he pitched a team-best 59 2/3 innings with 91 strikeouts, a 1.99 ERA, a 6-2 record and four saves. Opponents batted just .180 against him and he never gave up a home run.

1A Hitter of the Year: Collin Stewart, Paxton

The state-bound NWF talent led the Bobcats to the region final with two hits, a homer and three RBIs against Central to highlight a campaign in which he drove in 17 runs, scored 20 times, stole 14 bags, knocked down three long balls wrote his name and played sports. a slash of .467/.596/1.063.

1A Pitcher of the Year: Noah Morgan, Paxton

Coastal Alabama-bound Morgan was lights out for the Bobcats, highlighted by an eight-strikeout no-hitter over five innings in the region semifinal win over Central. Morgan finished the season with a 1.87 ERA, 65 strikeouts in 45 innings, and an opponent batting average of .178.

Coach of the Year: Nick Borthwick, South Walton

Well, duh. The Seahawks built the toughest schedule in 4A, beating bigger programs, winning district and regional titles and advancing to the state championship, but ultimately fell just short in a 4-1 loss to Cardinal Gibbons.

Gant Folendore, Choctaw: .980 OPS, 14 RBIs, 12 runs

Nick Gates, Niceville: .317 batting average, 20 walks, nine RBIs
