Norfolk man arrested after alleged assault in hospital

NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) – A man has been arrested and is facing multiple assault charges following an incident at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Norfolk police say 46-year-old Robert P. Baker Jr. seemed very restless and walking quickly when they first contacted him around 2 a.m. Friday. Baker allegedly revealed that he had eaten methamphetamine and was trying to get to the hospital for treatment.

Norfolk Rescue responded and transported Baker to Faith Regional Hospital with an officer present.

Once at the hospital, Baker grabbed a pregnant health care worker and ripped off her name tag. Police say because of Baker’s aggression, hospital staff asked Baker to leave.

As Baker was being escorted out of the hospital, he began sprinting toward the nurses. He was then restrained and prohibited from harming other health care workers.

However, during the time Baker was restrained, Norfolk police say he attempted to remove a Taser from one officer and attempted to take another officer’s firearm.

Baker was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail. He is currently charged with third-degree assault on a health care worker, two counts of attempted second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, obstructing a peace officer and criminal mischief.
