Nisha Dahiya Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Wrestling: Get to Know Your Olympian

One of India’s promising wrestlers, Nisha Dahiya, will be competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 68kg freestyle category. The 25-year-old won a bronze medal in the women’s 65kg freestyle category at the 2021 U23 World Wrestling Championships. At the 2022 Senior World Wrestling Championships in the women’s 68kg freestyle category, the Haryana-born wrestler put in an impressive performance but missed out on a bronze medal. Last year, she made a resounding comeback at the Senior Asian Championships in Astana and won a silver medal.

Besides Nisha Dahiya, the other Indian wrestlers who qualified for the Paris Olympics are Aman Sehrawat (men’s 57 kg), Vinesh Phogat (women’s 50 kg), Antim Panghal (women’s 53 kg), Anshu Malik (women’s 57 kg) and Reetika Hooda (women’s 76 kg). The Paris Olympics will be the first time that India will have five female wrestlers at the summer games. Apart from them, Aman Sehrawat is a male wrestler who will feature at the Paris Olympics this year.

Paris Olympic Games Qualification

Nisha Dahiya became the fifth Indian wrestler to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Nisha earned her qualification by defeating Romania’s Alexandra Anghel in the 68kg semi-finals during the World Championship qualifiers held in May this year. With this, India secured the participation of five women wrestlers in the Olympics. Nisha defeated Anghel 8-4 to reach the final and secure an Olympic quota.

Nisha Dahiya had defeated individual neutral athlete Alina Shauchuk 3-0 in the round of 16. The Indian wrestler won in the semi-finals 7-4 against Adela Hanzlickova of the Czech Republic.

Recent performances

In one of her recent performances, Nisha Dahiya won a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships held last year in Astana, Kazakhstan. Nisha defeated two-time Olympian Feng Zhou of China 7-6 to reach the final. In the final, Nisha lost to Japan’s Ami Ishi.
