Nick Krygios ‘feeling excited’ to face Novak Djokovic on Wimbledon off day

Australian tennis star Nick Krygios was enthusiastic after getting the chance to play against Serbian Novak Djokovic on the day off. The 29-year-old has been struggling with fitness issues for a long time. He has been out of action since September 2022 and has also undergone multiple surgeries.
Krygios now gets the chance to play the former world number one on a day off during Wimbledon 2024. The third Grand Slam is already underway, with players from around the world competing to secure the ultimate prize.

The Canberra-born star, in a post on his official account on social media platform X — formerly known as Twitter — expressed his excitement at getting the chance to play against Djokovic after such a long time. Krygios declared that he feels like a “little kid” again. “Playing against Novak tomorrow on his day off: feel like a little kid again…. Feeling excited. Long time since this surgery!” he wrote.

The injury has now seen Krygios miss the last seven Grand Slams. Unfortunately, his injury couldn’t have come at a worse time, as the 29-year-old was in arguably the best phase of his career. He played in his first and only Grand Slam final against Djokovic at Wimbledon in 2022, where he finished in runner-up position with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6(7–3).

Djokovic himself has struggled with fitness issues this season, however. He recently lost the top spot on the ATP rankings after he had to withdraw from the recently concluded French Open due to a knee injury just before the start of the quarter-final against Norwegian Casper Ruud.

The 37-year-old is often regarded as the best player in men’s tennis history in the singles category, with a staggering 24 Grand Slam titles to his name. He reached the second round of Wimbledon after beating Vit Kopriva in three sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Tomorrow on his day off to Novak 🫢🫣 feel like a little kid again…. Feel excited. Surgery long time ago!
