NHL Insider paints the extremely bleak outlook for Jeremy Swayman and the Boston Bruins

We’re closing in on the Boston Bruins starting the 2024-2025 season without goaltender Jeremy Swayman. The closer we get to opening night on October 8, the more and more it looks like the former University of Maine netminder won’t be between the pipes for the Black and Gold.

That would likely leave Boston with a duo of Joonas Korpisalo and Brandon Bussi to start the season and likely remain the duo until or if Swayman is signed. The Bruins and Swayman have until December 1 to finalize a deal for this season and it certainly seems like that could become a possibility. That wouldn’t be good.

Boston faces a tough schedule for October and November and if Swayman isn’t in goal, things could get very risky when it comes to the standings for Jim Montgomery’s side. You can’t win a division in your first few months, but you can certainly put yourself behind the eight ball when it comes to the standings, especially if you play in the Atlantic Division. An NHL insider believes that if something doesn’t happen soon with Swayman, it could be a while before his contract is finalized.

NHL Insider offers the scary take on Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins

NHL Insider Jimmy Murphy, a Bruins reporter, offered his opinion on the Fifth Liners Podcast that if something doesn’t happen soon, both sides could settle for the long haul with Swayman in goal for Montgomery.

‘I think this is December 1st’ Murphy said. “I really think if we don’t see anything in the next two weeks, this is going to happen long term and the Bruins are going to be in trouble.”

If this turns out to be the case, it’s not the best scenario for the Bruins entering the season. A once strong point over the past few seasons with Swayman and Linus Ullmark suddenly becomes a big question mark for Boston. Goaltending isn’t a position where it’s a question mark in the NHL, especially if you feel like you’re a contender. If this ends up happening, things will certainly be interesting for the Black and Gold.
