The Los Angeles Rams and cornerback Tre’Davious White are discussing the player’s future, including the possibility of a deal before the Nov. 5 trade deadline, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

White signed a one-year, $4.25 million contract contract with the Rams this offseason after seven years with the Buffalo Bills.

The 29-year-old started the team’s first four games, making 12 tackles and breaking up two passes. However, according to ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, he has been inactive for the past two games following Darious Williams’ return from a hamstring injury.

Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters earlier this month that White handled the situation like “a professional in every sense of the word.”

However, it’s clear why White would be concerned about his future in LA if he’s made inactive now. He could be active in the coming weeks, especially if an injury crops up in the Rams’ secondary.

However, the trade deadline is approaching in a week and a half, so it would behoove White to land elsewhere by then in hopes of getting more playing time.

There is also the matter of White’s next contract after this season. He has a much better chance of getting a more lucrative deal by showcasing his talents and providing good tape, something he can’t do right now in Los Angeles.

White earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2019 with a league-high six interceptions. He finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting that season, capping a long stretch as the Bills’ No. 1 cornerback.

He was a big reason why the Bills put aside a seventeen-year stint outside the playoffs and became the perennial postseason team they are today.

Unfortunately, White suffered a torn ACL in 2021 and then a torn Achilles tendon in 2023. He played just 10 games from Thanksgiving 2021 through the end of the 2023 campaign.

White was given a clean bill of health this year and signed with the Rams. He got off to a rough start, with opposing quarterbacks completing 12 of 18 passes for 178 yards and four touchdowns in his coverage, according to Pro Football Reference. Perhaps a change of scenery could benefit White, one of the game’s elite defensive backs in his prime.
