The Las Vegas Raiders wanted the New York Jets to include wide receiver Mike Williams in the trade of Gang Green for Davante Adams. However, New York did not want to grant that request and ultimately sent a conditional 2025 third-round pick to Las Vegas.

Albert Breer van Sports illustrated reported that news The Rich Eisen Show (9:10 point).

Williams was bumped up the Jets’ deep depth chart while Adams was now in town and Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard were still there.

Williams signed a one-year, $10 million contract in free agency last offseason. But this has been a quiet year for the ex-Los Angeles Charger, who has just 11 catches for 160 yards and no touchdowns in his second year after suffering a torn ACL in September 2023.

With the Jets struggling, New York acquired Adams in hopes of jump-starting the offense in a reunion with longtime Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.

Of course, that in turn moved Williams lower on the depth chart, so it’s interesting that the Jets weren’t willing to part with him in that case. However, the Jets could very well send Williams to another team in a separate trade. They ended up getting Adams too, so it’s not like Williams’ inclusion was a deal breaker.

But it’s not working for Williams in New York. The Jets can’t get anything going themselves, while the team is on life support at 2-6. The promising offense has hit its stride, with New York averaging just 18.8 points per game (25th in the NFL).

Right now, the Jets are almost at the point where they’re playing the strings. It’s possible New York has a great second half and fights for the playoffs, but right now they’re already three games out of the AFC wild card bracket.

Ultimately, it behooves the Jets to trade Williams at some point at this point in hopes of acquiring a draft pick and rebuilding for the future. We’ll find out soon enough if that happens as the November 5 trade deadline approaches.
