After giving themselves some hope of salvaging this season with a 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans on Thursday night, the New York Jets appear reluctant to make any drastic moves that would strip talent from their roster before the trade deadline.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Jets are not expected to move Garrett Wilson or DJ Reed, even though teams have made calls about the availability of both players.

Any talk of Wilson being traded made no sense given his age and high level of performance despite having mediocre quarterback talent around him before Aaron Rodgers took over.

That didn’t stop teams from calling the Jets to inquire about Wilson’s availability after New York acquired Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders.

If there was any chance of Wilson being traded before, it probably ended with him making perhaps the best touchdown catch of the season against the Texans to remind everyone that he is a special talent at only 24 years old.

Trading Reed would be much easier to explain because he is in the final season of his contract. It seems unlikely he will be back with Sauce Gardner next season, making it clear he wants to set a new standard for cornerback contracts when he becomes eligible for an extension this offseason.

Entering Week 9, Reed was Pro Football Focus’ top-ranked cornerback this season. He struggled in the previous two games before Thursday night, allowing eight receptions for 93 yards and five first downs.

The Jets could potentially get a solid return for Reed, but they can’t justify a sale with the roster they’ve put together. They had already acquired Adams and changed head coaches due to their desperation to salvage this season.

Although the Jets are just 3-6 after beating the Texans, they could end the weekend just two games without a wild card spot in the AFC depending on how things go. They have winnable games against the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts over the next two weeks before a bye in Week 12.
