The Dallas Cowboys do not appear to be in the hunt for quarterback Daniel Jones.

The Giants released the 27-year-old on Friday after six seasons with the franchise. He will clear waivers on Monday and could be an intriguing option for a quarterback-needy team.

With starting quarterback Dak Prescott out for the season with a hamstring injury, the Cowboys could be a team that fits that description. However, NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the team is “not currently pursuing” Jones.

For those asking, I was told #Cowboys are not currently tracking QB Daniel Jones, per source.

The Cowboys depth chart currently consists of Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, with Prescott unavailable.

In Prescott’s absence, Rush has thrown for 566 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions and led the team to an 0-2 record. While this production isn’t ideal, Dallas is currently 3-7 and it would take a miracle to somehow reach the postseason.

Adding Jones could theoretically improve the team’s chances, but probably wouldn’t move the needle enough to actually lead them to the playoffs. He was mediocre for the Giants in 2024, throwing for 2,070 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions and leading the team to a 2-8 record prior to his benching after Week 11.

In the right situation, he could have a redemption arc, but that may have to wait until 2025. Dallas will roll the dice with Rush and Lance in the meantime and then hope Prescott can lead the team to a strong season in 2025.
