From dominant victories to exciting matches, round thirteen of the Stiles Electrical Premier League has created a lot of excitement on the ground.


Men

In an intense game at the Troy Pickard Hockey Center, North Coast Raiders earned a one-goal victory over Mods-OGM.

The Raiders and Mod-OGM faced off on Sunday, June 23 in a battle to stay out of the relegation zone.

From the first pushout, North Coast Raiders were ready to bring the intensity to goal, with Nathan Oldfield scoring in just 30 seconds.

Unwilling to give up easily, Mods-OGM fired back with a field goal of their own in the seventh minute, with Pierce Paynter scoring to level the scores near quarter-time.

The match continued to increase in intensity during the second quarter, with Mods-OGM taking the lead with a penalty from Liam Woodward.

However, North Coast Raiders would respond seconds later with a Jamie Rawlings penalty corner to level the scores.

The third quarter saw plenty of back and forth from both sides, although the Raiders would break through and take the lead again with a second penalty corner from Jamie Rawlings.

With Raiders looking to maintain their slim lead and Mods-OGM eager to fire back, the match reached a stalemate in the final quarter.

Because the match was so intense, the match had an action-packed ending.

Despite Mods-OGM having a few chances to level the scores through penalty corners, the Raiders held on and won 3-2.

Elsewhere, Reds defeated Victoria Park 4-3, Hale defeated Whitford 5-3, UWA held off WASPS 4-2 and Melville narrowly defeated YMCC 4-3.

Ladies

Despite a slow start in the opening quarter, Hale have strengthened their bid for a top five finish after beating North Coast Raiders in an action-packed match.

Hale and North Coast Raiders went head-to-head on Sunday, June 23 at the Troy Pickard Hockey Center.

Looking to take an early lead, North Coast Raiders made a good start with a field goal through Aimee Kirsten in the third minute of the match, followed by another field goal through Madeleine Newitt in the 11th minute.e minute.

Although Hale managed a response through Sarah Byrnes, the Raiders maintained a 2-1 lead at quarter time.

From the second quarter onwards, Hale continued their charge towards goal in an attempt to overtake the Raiders.

Despite the Raiders defending strongly through Monique Formilan, Tyler Pedley would break through with a penalty corner to level the scores by half-time.

The second half of the match was dominated by Hale, with Shanae Haywood scoring two goals within minutes of each other early in the third quarter.

Although Raiders continued to apply strong pressure, Hale would remain strong at the final change and lead by two goals.

The final quarter saw Hale continue to dominate the match, with strong performances from Sarah Byrnes and Michaela Spano giving them the lead.

Further goals through Caitlin Mundy and Fiona Cock sealed the deal for Hale to win 6-2.

Elsewhere, Victoria defeated Park Reds 2-1, Whitford prevailed over Melville 2-1 in a must-win match, Suburban Lions and Westside Wolves could not be separated in a 2-2 draw and UWA dominated WASPS with 7-0.

Division 2

In the men’s competition, Westside Wolves achieved two wins in the same week, beating Melville 3-0 and then Fremantle Cockburn 1-0, Reds and Victoria Park drew at 3 goals apiece, Hale beat Whitford 3-1, UWA and WASPS drew 2. -2 defeated Curtin University Mods-OGM 4-2 and YMCC held off Melville 3-2.

In the women’s competition, Reds and Victoria Park drew at 1-1, Suburban Lions and Westside Wolves also played 1 goal each, Curtin University and Melville could not be separated with two goals apiece, Hale defeated North Coast Raiders 6-3, and YMCC defeated UWA 4-2.
