Newcastle United’s latest action plan will not go down well with Liverpool

Newcastle United struggled with financial problems during the summer transfer window.

Concerns over the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules prompted the Magpies to consider selling winger Anthony Gordon to Liverpool.

The Merseyside club had shown concrete interest in the English attacker, who enjoyed a successful season with the Magpies in 2023-24.

Gordon scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 35 Premier League games last season.

According to TBR Football, Newcastle are willing to sit down with the former Everton winger to discuss the terms of a new contract at St James’ Park.

They are keen to keep Gordon at the club as they consider him, along with Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes, one of their most valuable players.

Eddie Howe’s team solved their PSR problems by selling Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson in the summer transfer window.

Since Gordon can stay at the club without any problems, they want to tie the player to a long-term contract so that Liverpool cannot poach him in the near future.

According to the report, the Merseyside club are still interested in the player and will make an attempt to sign the talented young winger in the future.

The Magpies are currently in contract negotiations with Isak and they are willing to make him the club’s highest paid player.

Newcastle United must sort out Gordon’s contract as soon as possible

Once they have dealt with that, they will start working on Gordon’s contract with the club, which expires in 2026.

The Magpies absolutely must keep their best players at the club if they are to challenge the Premier League status quo on a regular basis.

Gordon, Isak and Guimaraes are all key players who can take the club to the next level and help the club reach the Champions League, just as they have done in the past.

Howe’s team have made an excellent start to the season, with three wins from their first four games of the season.
