Newcastle United have set their sights on a goalkeeper who could cost £30million

Although Newcastle United have already signed two goalkeepers this summer, they are reportedly considering signing a third.

Due to the Premier League’s strict profit and sustainability (PSR) rules, the Magpies signed Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, sending local talent Elliot Anderson in the other direction.

Veteran John Ruddy, 37, has also been signed on a free transfer from League One club Birmingham City to join Slovakia reserve international Martin Dubravka.

But despite having a well-stocked goalkeeping department led by number one Nick Pope, Eddie Howe has set his sights on a different one, according to a recent report from TBR Football.

Burnley’s James Trafford is a player the Magpies have been linked with on several occasions in the past, but no deal has been reached yet.

James Trafford has long been a sought-after transfer for Newcastle United.

Furthermore, it could become even more difficult for Howe’s team to strike a deal with the Clarets’ championship campaign starting in less than a week.

Burnley will not let the former Manchester City star leave Turf Moor for a bargain, with the player expected to cost around £30million.

Last season, Trafford, Burnley’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League, kept two clean sheets in 28 domestic games.

The 21-year-old, represented by leading agency CAA Stellar, has three years left on his contract, which is worth £25,000-a-week (Spotrac).
