‘New structure’ behind Chelsea transfer decision will disappoint fans

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s ‘new structure’ is one of the reasons why the club did not want to pay too much for the transfer of Victor Osimhen this summer.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside For this article in the Daily Briefing, Romano explained that he does not feel it is his place to say whether the Blues should have been prepared to spend more to get the deal for Osimhen done.

The transfer expert, however, suggests that Chelsea are clearly sticking to the new structure they have put in place, so you can imagine that this will be divisive among fans of the west London giants.

While it is in some ways admirable that Chelsea are trying to stick to a long-term approach without spending a fortune on big stars like they used to, perhaps there is also a time and a place to show more ambition and bring in a real star who can help win trophies.

Victor Osimhen’s transfer to Chelsea didn’t work out well

Osimhen certainly falls into that category, but he eventually made a surprise move to Galatasaray, where he is now on loan.

Osimhen transfer: Chelsea stick to new structure, says Romano

“There may be some disappointment that Chelsea couldn’t sign Victor Osimhen, but I’m not someone who can tell Chelsea what they should pay for players, including Osimhen,” Romano told the Daily Briefing.

“It was always going to be difficult to sign Osimhen, as he had a high salary and Chelsea now have a new structure. Overall, I think it was a very good window for Chelsea as well and my favourite signing for the long term is definitely Estevao Willian, a super talent.”

CFC fans have undoubtedly been waiting for a signing like Osimhen to come along so that they would have a world-class player to lead their attack. But it was not to be this time, although you can imagine it is a story to watch for the future.
