New Scottish sensation Jacob Fearnley has a message for Andy Murray

Rising Scot Jacob Fearnley reveals he idolized Andy Murray and admits he wouldn’t mind the former three-time Grand Slam champion joining his team as a coach or mentor.

Currently, the 23-year-old enjoys a career-high ranking of No. 98 in the world. But just four months ago he was ranked 525 in the world. Since then, Fearnley has enjoyed great success on the Challenger Tour, winning titles in Nottingham, Lincoln, Rennes and Orleans.

It should also be noted that he scored his first Wimbledon victory last summer – winning a set against Novak Djokovic in the second round – before losing to the seven-time Wimbledon champion in the second round.

If you’re wondering where Fearnley was before, he played college tennis and has been a regular on Tour for the last few months.

“I really want to meet him (Murray). Growing up he was a big inspiration and he was the figure I looked up to the most. What he has achieved for himself and his country is amazing, the way he fights on the court and The way he plays is special to watch. Every tennis player growing up in Britain, and especially in Scotland, is someone we all want to be like. Hopefully I can follow in his footsteps, but I know it is a very difficult task, the 23-year-old Scot told Sky Sports.

Fearnley to Murray: I wouldn’t say no to you

While the Scot was making some noise about the Challenger, Murray was preparing for his retirement – which took place at the Paris Olympics. Before the Olympics, the former world number 1 at Wimbledon indicated that he was open to the possibility of becoming a coach one day.

Given that Fearnley – who is currently working with Mark Hilton – looks like someone who could be Scotland’s next great player, he was naturally asked about the prospect of working with his country’s greatest ever tennis player.

“Right now I’m very happy with the coaching I have, but if he wants to give me advice and help me in any way, I certainly wouldn’t say no,” Fearnley noted.
