Quentin Grimes could remain with the Dallas Mavericks for the foreseeable future.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Grimes and the Mavericks are “discussing three-year extension scenarios” and that he could be a candidate to receive a new contract before Monday night.

“Dallas’ Quentin Grimes has emerged as a potential contract extension recipient ahead of Monday’s 6:00 PM ET deadline, according to sources,” Stein wrote. “It is rumored that the Mavericks and Grimes have discussed scenarios for a three-year extension.”

Grimes was dealt to Dallas from the Detroit Pistons in June and previously played for the New York Knicks. He averaged seven points, two rebounds and 1.3 assists in 2023-24.

He adds depth to a Mavericks guard group led by Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Dallas went 50-32 in 2023-24 and reached the NBA Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics in five games. Grimes would have been a solid addition to that roster and will have a chance to fill a role for a promising team.

He plays with a club option in 2024-25 and could be a restricted free agent after the season. However, Stein’s report suggests that Dallas could be willing to commit to him and make him a permanent part of the roster.
