BENONI – Two tragic accidents on the N12 have claimed several lives.

The two multi-vehicle crashes led to the closure of the N12 west between the Snake Road and Tom Jones exits.

Both accidents involved trucks.

Coal and timber trucks collide

In the first accident, an empty coal truck, a truck carrying lumber and a vehicle collided just past the Voortrekker Road bridge.

The truck carrying timber left the road and ended up in dense bushes. There was also wood strewn across the road.

A more gruesome scene unfolded when two other trucks collided. The accident also involved five cars and one vehicle was trapped between the two trucks.

South Africans express their anger about trucks

@Honeybadge375 exclaimed:

“Get the trucks off the road.”

@michell44365613 said:

“I was on that road today and the trucks are moving fast.”

@malesamohlala added:

“Trucks are like foreign spaza shops on our road.”

@UnathiSoyi:

“Truck drivers always drive too fast on the N3 and N12. They also drive while talking on the phone. I’ve seen a few with my own eyes. Second, people in small cars are very reckless towards trucks. Underestimate the speed of the truck or overestimate their car, I don’t know.”

@AnnHuma1556:

“This is really scary. I’ve seen these truck drivers driving down the road. May their souls rest in peace.”
