My Neighbor Totoro 512-page movie comic Omnibus is now available for $27

If you want read a Studio Ghibli film, the All-in-one edition of the My Neighbor Totoro film comic series is available now. This 584-page hardcover omnibus costs $27 (was $30) at Amazon and collects all six My Neighbor Totoro trade paperback comics, some of which are hard to find for even remotely reasonable prices these days. Even if you were to find all six through an official retailer for list price ($10 each), you’d still be spending more than double the price of My Neighbor Totoro All-In-One Edition.

You can also buy the hardcover omnibus versions of Kiki’s delivery service film strip, which will be released on October 22, and Spirited Away Filmstripwhich is scheduled for January 28, 2025. Individual volumes of this have been even harder to find, most notably Spirited Away, which hit theaters in 2001 and remains the highest-grossing film in Studio Ghibli’s catalog. Spirited Away became the first Japanese anime to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards, and it remained the only Oscar winner in that category until Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron won earlier this year.

These graphic novels are notable for using the original film animation cells for illustrations. They’ve all been rearranged and formatted to look like comic book and manga panels, and the results are surprisingly effective. Spirited Away totals 864 pages, while My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service each clock in at 584 pages. Hopefully Howl’s Moving Castle, which also has a Film Comics series, will get the All-In-One treatment next.

For anyone who loves the art direction of Studio Ghibli films, this is a great way to “pause” a film so you can focus on the finer details of these beautifully animated stories. Because these comics use original cells and illustrations from the films, they can also truly be viewed as reasonably priced art books. Recommended age ranges for readers vary between the books. My Neighbor Totoro is recommended for ages 8-11, while Kiki’s Delivery Service is for ages 11-14. Spirited Away does not yet have a recommended age range listed, but the comics were written for ages nine and up when the series debuted in 2002.

Studio Ghibli films

There are already plenty of other Studio Ghibli books available to add to your home library, including traditional art books for Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. Each of these films has also been adapted into a picture book.

But the most notable book deal at Amazon is undoubtedly Miyazaki’s manga box set Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind for $53 (was $80).
