Murder charge after attack in West Bromwich pub

Five people have been charged in connection with the death of a father following an attack in a pub.

Matthew Adams, 33, was attacked at the Gough Arms in Jowetts Lane, West Bromwich, in the early hours of March 19 last year.

Mark Shorthouse, 53, Ryan Stanley, 30, John Wise, 42, and a 16-year-old boy, all from West Bromwich, are charged with murder and violent disorder.

Nichola Stanley, 39, has been charged with violent disorder.

Mr Adams, from Walsall, had gone home after the incident.

An ambulance was called on March 23 and he died in hospital that day, West Midlands Police said.

A tribute from his family said the loss had left their “world shattered and hearts broken”.

The son, brother, partner, friend and father of two was known to many as Wacka, she added.

“Matt left a lasting impression on everyone he met with his funny, loving and carefree ways,” a statement said.

The suspects are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday.
