MPD: Woman charged with domestic violence-related assault

A Charlotte woman is facing several charges in connection with a domestic violence incident in which a firearm was discharged multiple times, according to Mooresville police.

The MPD announced the arrest of Krista Charrisse Oates, 40, in a news release.

Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving multiple shots fired Thursday around 6:19 p.m., police said.

Officers spoke with the uninjured victim, who reported being attacked by Oates with a baseball bat before she attacked with a firearm, the news release said. Multiple shell casings were recovered at the scene and the vehicle Oates used to flee the scene was located at her home, police said.

Officers established a perimeter around the home and called in the department’s Special Response Team, crisis negotiators and Criminal Investigations Division to assist.

After negotiators contacted Oates by phone, she left the home and was taken into custody at 8:23 p.m., police said. A search warrant was served at the home and detectives found the firearm and bat used in the attack, the news release said.

Oates was charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony discharge of a firearm within city limits, felony communicating threats and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance .

Oates was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center. A magistrate ordered her held without bond.
