Pathanamthitta: A youth was killed in an accident after his neck got entangled in a rope across the road in Muthoor, Thiruvalla on Sunday. The deceased Sayed (32), a native of Thakazhi, Alappuzha, was traveling with his wife and children when the accident occurred.

According to witnesses, several travelers on this road lifted the rope and passed through as there were no staff present to stop vehicles or ensure safety. Only after the accident was a red ribbon added to the rope and before that only a few leaves were placed on it.

Residents blamed the negligence of those carrying out the work and stated that the accident could have been avoided if proper precautions had been taken, such as posting someone to direct traffic. The police have started an investigation into the incident.

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has filed a case on its own over Syed’s death. Committee member VK Beenakumari has directed the Alappuzha district police chief to investigate the incident and submit a detailed report within 15 days. The case was taken up after media reports. The commission described the incident as a case of “serious negligence” and called for “accountability.”
