Montenegrin national tennis advanced to the second level of the World Group, as both male and female tennis players played excellently in the final tournaments of the third qualitative group.

The men’s team was defeated today in Ulcinj in the final of the III European Davis Cup group by the Cyprus selection 2:1. In the first match Matija Samardžić was defeated by Nikolas Campbell 6:2, 6:1. Petar Jovanović evened the score against Menelaos Efstatiu with a score of 6:3, 6:3.

The top ranked player Rezart Cunguz did not play in today’s match without results due to the pain he felt in his leg, so coach Aleksandar Tomić did not want to risk injury. In the decisive doubles match, Matija Samardžić and Simon Knežević provided excellent resistance against Sergis Kiradzis and Eleftherios Neos. The Cypriot won the doubles 6:4, 7:6.

However, as first place in the group stage, our tennis players have secured a competition in the II World Group, where they will have their first match in February for a place in the play-offs of the best world group.

In Moldova, at Billie Jean King’s qualitative level III, after two initial defeats in the group against Luxembourg and Ireland, the first favorites, they recorded three victories and finished the competition in seventh place.

This time the draw was not in favor of our ladies, so an even better result was missed. Our tennis players defeated San Marino today with 2:0. The first victory was achieved by Anja Drašković, who was better than Talita Gijardi – 6:0, 6:0, and Tea Nikčević easily defeated Silvija Aleta – 6:1, 6:3.
