Montana High School Football Blitz Summary

Class AA

Bozeman Gallatin 35, Helena Capital 28: Montana State Commitment Award Vigen threw two touchdowns and ran for the third. Driver Dahlke ran for 57 yards and made a 7-yard touchdown reception, giving the Raptors all 35 points in the middle two quarters to beat the Bruins.Merek Mihelish threw two scores and ran for another score for Capital. Bobby Gutzman scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 25-yard reception from Vigen on the final play of the third quarter.

Bozeman 30, Helena 17: Kash Embry threw two touchdown passes and ran for a third as the reigning state champion Hawks defeated the Bengals. Embry threw a 15-yard toss to Evan Hughen and a 13-yarder to Logan Humphrey. His 3-yard dash was the crowning achievement for the TD score. A 33-yard strike from Jaxan Lieberg Unpleasant Mac Lundstrom gave Helena a 17-13 lead with 5:13 left in the third quarter. The Bengals’ other TD came on a 3-yard run by Trygve Brown.

Billings West 28, Butte 27: The Bulldogs broke a 14-14 tie in the third quarter when Colton Shea loaded a 66-yard bomb on speedster Tocher Leebut the Golden Bears rallied to 14 points in the fourth quarter. Both teams scored in the final minute, but it was Billings West’s goal-line stand that prevented Butte’s two-point conversion with seven seconds left and secured the victory. Lee put the Bulldogs to work in the first quarter when he brought a punt upfield, cut back against coverage and rushed 50 yards for the touchdown. The Bears scored on a touchdown run from Matt Ludwigand took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter when CJ Johnson connected with Elias Bonner on a 25-yard strike. Butte tied the game before halftime on a TD pass from Shea to Hudson Luedtke.

Missoula Big Sky 40, Belgrade 7: Avery Omlid threw a couple touchdown passes, hit Eli Kasberg (6 meters) and Brady Williams (33 yards) and the Eagles outscored the Panthers, leading 13-0 in the first quarter and 33-0 at halftime. Tanner Davis ran for two scores, including a 16-yard dash, Keller Hiedrick rushed for a score and Williams added a three-yard scoring run.

Missoula Sentinel 27, Billings Skyview 21: Jace Kashotka rushed for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and threw a 22-yard scoring strike to Jaxson Allery when the Spartans defeated the Falcons to win the season opener. Camble Bjornstad hauled in a 25-yard scoring pass from Paxton-Fitch for the Falcons, scoring a second point on an eight-yard run. Zakai Owens caught a 14-yard touchdown from Fitch, and Ryan Haidle hit paydirt for Missoula on a seven-yard run. Sentinel rolled up 235 yards rushing and 172 yards through the air.

• Big Falls CMR 28, Kalispell Flathead 14: Kaleb Taylor fired three touchdown passes – two to Signed Etcheberry – And Keegan Fuller added a first-quarter running score from 15 yards out as the Rustlers held off the Braves to give first-year coach AJ Wilson his inaugural victory. Taylor connected with Etcheberry from 77 and 26 yards out for a 21-6 lead early in the fourth quarter, then found Quay Somerfeld for an 80-yard launch to seal it. Taylor was 12-for-20 passing for 308 yards. Brett Pesola scored on a 14-yard quarterback keeper and Nolan Campbell added a 9-yard scoring jaunt for Flathead.

Kalispell Glacier 28, Great Falls 3: Kobe Dorcheus ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns and Jackson Presley ran for a third and passed for another as the defensive second-place Wolfpack got off to a fast start and held off Great Falls. Presley ran into the end zone from 15 yards with 10:05 left in the first quarter and hit Carson Bakker from 38 yards for a 14-0 lead eight minutes later. Great Falls got on the scoreboard with a 29-yard field goal by Caleb Litzinger with 0:00.2 on the clock before half time.

Billings Senior 21, Missoula Hellgate 12: Ryder Murdock ran for one score and threw for another – a 66-yarder to Davyn Lehfeldt — for the Broncs, who rushed for 257 yards and handed the Knights their 13th straight loss. Rylan Jennings also scored for Senior, which led by two points until Murdock made a 15-yard run with 6:43 to play. Vince Paffhausen threw for a score to Finn Kelly and made a bid for second place for Hellgate, which had conceded at least 41 points in all of its games in 2023.

Class A

• Franstown 42, Columbia Falls 12: Brody Hardy threw two touchdowns and ran for two more, and Billy Corette added a pair of scores of his own as the Broncs ran past the Wildcats. Hardy opened the scoring with a 24-yard run and also had a 1-yard plunge, added a 25-yard scoring toss to Corette — who had a 35-yard fumble return for a score — and also found Bailey Corette for a 3-yarder. Banyan-Johnston had a hand in both of Columbia Falls’ TDs, scoring on a 1-yard run and hitting Jory Heuvel on a 31-yard pass — both in the first half.

• Corvallis 50, Browning 12: Ayden Mayn threw four touchdown passes – two to Gideon Boswell in the second quarter — when the Blue Devils, coming off their best season in decades, swept the Indians for their 13th win in 16 games. Mayn connected with Boswell from 26 and 27 yards out after he Salomon Morgan on a 48-yarder and Alex Hauck on a 6-yarder in the first quarter. One of Mayn’s few glitches was a 101-yard interception return by state bull riding champion Tahj Wellswho also made a 4-yard touchdown run for Browning in the third quarter.

Whitefish 27, Hamilton 7: Carson Gulick threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as the Bulldogs pulled off an opening night upset of the Broncs. Gulick hit CJ Dew for scoring drives of 12 and 94 yards as Whitefish jumped to a 27-0 lead. Hamilton’s lone score came on a 36-yard pass from Cooper West Unpleasant Andrik Valenzuela.

Class B

• Jefferson 21, Florence-Carlton 14: Tyler Zody’s keeper with 9.9 seconds left broke a 14-14 tie and led the Panthers to a huge season-opening victory over the reigning B champions. Jefferson went ahead 7-0 in the first quarter on a touchdown run from Lucas OxarartThe Falcons tied the game when Mason Arlington hit paydirt. Oxarart put Jefferson back ahead with a 31-yard scoring run, and the Falcons answered again when Arlington Isaac Bates for a nine-yard scoring strike.

• Three Forks 28, Missoula Loyola 13: Playing in Bobcat Stadium, Cannon Reichman ran for a pair of touchdowns and passed for another — a 41-yard strike to Dylan Swenson — and the Wolves, who won their first playoff game in 30 years last season, picked up where they left off with strong performances on both ends of the court. Sawman Anderson found the end zone with a four-yard run and also had an interception. Jack Clevenger threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Declan Harrington for Loyola and ran for another score.

• Red Lodge 46, Whitehall 8: Pursuit Cook ran for nearly 200 yards — including a 47-yard run on the first play of the game and a 97-yard run late in the game — as the reigning state semifinalist Rams punished the Trojans.

• Glasgow 51, Herder 8: In a battle between two playoff teams from a year ago, the Scotties started fast, scoring 26 points in the first quarter and 19 in the second quarter en route to a 51-8 victory over Shepherd, led by new coach in his first year, Josh Casares.Warren Gamas threw three touchdowns and Wyatt Suggs scored two points for the Scotties, who quickly took a 45-0 lead at halftime, crushing the Mustangs. Alec Boland had a point return for a score, Rex Monson added a pick-6 and Minot State commit Wyatt Babb caught one of Gamas’ touchdown passes for Glasgow.

8-Man

Fairview 63, Populier 26: Tyler Loan threw three touchdown passes, ran for a fourth and caught a fifth for the reigning state champion Warriors, who took a 54-0 lead into halftime and beat the Indians. Wyatt McPherson scored twice and threw a scoring strike to Loan. Ryan Lustig also scored three TDs for Fairview: on a 20-yard interception return, a 70-yard catch by Loan and a kick return to start the third quarter and cap his team’s scoring run. Poplar scored two TDs and had a safety.

6-Man

Broadview-Lavina 70, Roy-Winifred 68: The Pirates rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half to steal the victory in a game of evenly matched teams, passing for 365 yards and nine TDs. Connor Glennie did a little bit of everything, throwing five touchdown passes, catching two touchdown strikes and rushing for another score. Ty Lippert got in on the action by throwing for four touchdowns and grabbing another, and Lucas Bunting scored four touchdowns, including the winning one.
