Monster Hunter Wilds finally removes gender-specific armor, meaning anyone can wear anything

Capcom is finally removing gender-specific gear from the Monster Hunter series in 2025’s Monster Hunter Wilds. This means any character can wear any gear.

Game director Yuya Tokuda announced during a presentation for Monster Hunter Wilds that the long-awaited feature would finally be implemented after more than 20 games and 20 years.

“In previous Monster Hunter games, you had male and female armor, but I’m happy to confirm that in Monster Hunter Wilds, there will no longer be male and female armor,” Tokuda said through a translator. “All characters can wear any armor.”

Monster Hunter fans have already expressed their excitement for the change, as a post titled “We Defeated Gender” currently has 10,000 upvotes on the series’ Reddit page. “Finally playing a female lancer with the most absolute big chonka armor known to man,” one user said in the comments.

Monster Hunters Wilds was announced as the next mainline game in December 2023, but Capcom has yet to give a concrete release date.

In our latest preview of the game, IGN said it was “pretty much what[we]hoped for: a Monster Hunter that embraces the elements of Rise that made it so much more compelling, but also doesn’t shy away from the grander scale and spectacle that made World a more enduring game.”
