Mohamed Salah: Liverpool forward focused on enjoying last year’s deal

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah says he only wants to focus on the final year of his contract before making a decision on his future.

Salah, 32, is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds, with his deal expiring this summer.

Liverpool rejected a £150million bid for Salah from Al-Ittihad last September.

“Before the season I thought: ‘I have one year left, let’s just enjoy it and not think about the contract’,” Salah told Sky Sports, external.

“I don’t want to think about next year or the future, I just want to enjoy the last year (of my contract) and then we’ll see.”

“The most important thing is to take each day as it comes and just be grateful that you’re here.”

The Egypt captain joined the Reds from Roma in 2017 for £34million and has scored 213 goals in 351 games, making him fifth on Liverpool’s all-time top scorer list.

In July 2022, Salah signed a new three-year contract, reportedly making him the highest-paid player in the club’s history, with a salary of more than £350,000-a-week.

He has quickly adapted to life under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, scoring in the Dutchman’s first two Premier League games as manager, having only played under his former manager Jurgen Klopp during his career at Anfield.

Salah won every major prize under Klopp except the Europa League.
