MLB announces uniform changes to address player outrage

The MLB All-Star Game will see players return to wearing their primary home and road uniforms starting in 2025.

The league made the announcement Monday as part of a series of uniform changes that will be implemented over the next two seasons in response to player protests.

Players previously wore their primary uniforms from the 1930s through the 2019 All-Star Game in Cleveland. They began wearing uniforms specifically designed for display at the 2021 All-Star Game in Colorado. The change does not include limits; players wear game caps designed for the exhibition.

The other changes announced undo aspects of the Nike Vapor Premier jersey design introduced this season, which drew widespread criticism from players after the competition. Nike and Fanatics worked with the MLBPA to solicit player feedback.

The changes include greater customization of the pants, returning to materials used before this season and increasing the size of the lettering for player names on the back of jerseys.

The league, citing production timelines, said the uniform changes will not be fully implemented until the 2025 season. However, gray road uniforms of the fabric used during the 2023 season will be ready for spring training. By 2026, all uniforms will use materials from the 2023 seasons.
