Mitchell’s Brad Buche Wins Senior SDGA Match Play Event – Mitchell Republic

BROOKINGS — Mitchell’s Brad Buche won a championship in the SDGA senior men’s match play on Sunday at Brookings Country Club.

Buche defeated Sioux Falls’ Rob Dewit 3-and-2 in the finals to claim his second straight title. His path in the bracket included a 3-and-2 victory over Rapid City’s Steve Beardsley in the quarterfinals and a 4-and-2 victory over Flandreau’s Derek Burshiem in the semifinals.

In the Women’s Match Play Championship, Allison Meyerink (Mitchell) defeated Alex Kandolin (Rapid City) 3-and-2 to reach the semifinals, where she lost to Olivia Braun (Aberdeen) 6-and-4. Shakira-Ann Kuys (Brookings) defeated Braun 2-and-1 in the final.

In the men’s match play championship, Mitchell’s Russell Pick advanced to the semifinals by beating Sioux Falls’ Michael Hoxter 2-up before losing 4-and-3 to Brookings’ Brodie Hullinger. Sioux Falls’ Luke Honner then defeated Brodie Hullinger 4-and-3 in the final.

The winner of the senior women’s match play was Rapid City’s Marna Raburn, who defeated Rapid City’s Cara Boehler 3-and-2.

There were 136 players who competed in the championship during the four-day event. The next SDGA event is the adult championship on July 28 at Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.
