Minecraft’s Bundles Of Bravery update adds a hardcore mode and tote bags

Minecraft’s annual showcase stream took place tonight. As part of the show, Mojang showed off some future updates for the game. First up: the Bundles Of Bravery update, which will add a proper hardcore mode to the Bedrock Edition, as well as bundles, which will allow you to carry more items in your inventory when you go on adventures.

Hardcore mode adds permadeath to Minecraft, giving you only one life to live and automatically generating a new world when you inevitably succumb to a creeper. This hardcore option has been around for a long time in the Java edition of Minecraft, but in Bedrock you had to manually delete and generate a new world every time you died, or you had to add an unsatisfactory paid mod from Bedrock’s marketplace to it.

Bundles Of Bravery adds a simple toggle you can add when generating your world, which seems to exist independently of other difficulties. My kid – who watches Minecraft videos in hardcore mode on YouTube all day – will be happy.

Bundles are pretty simple: a bag you can create that you can place items in and then only take up one inventory slot. Mojang says that the old Minecraft had fewer types of blocks, so a mining expedition would fill less of your inventory as your dirt and cobblestones would build up in your inventory. Bundles allow you to recreate something similar by taking all your Andesite, Diorite, and Calcite and putting them in a bag.

These bags have been available in the preview builds of Java and Bedrock since August, but were also previously tested and scrapped in 2020. This time, it looks like they’ll make the cut.

There’s no release date for Bundles Of Bravery yet, but Mojang recently announced that they plan to release fewer, smaller Minecraft updates from now on. This should come along soon.
