Minecraft players build stunning 1:1 reconstruction of New York City

Minecraft players have built a stunning 1:1 scale reconstruction of New York City.

As seen below in a Reddit post by d3_cent, construction includes iconic locations like the Brooklyn Bridge, Battery Park, and more. Construction has been four years in the making, and despite its incredible scale, d3_cent said only about 68% of Lower Manhattan is complete.

It took so long because “it’s exact,” they said. “Every building is hand-crafted, (with) the right amount of windows, correct window details, trash cans where they are in real life, traffic signs, stop signs, everything.”

In addition to these examples, the team is also creating accurate underground subway systems and even the depth of the water around Manhattan is accurate. Construction is currently focused on the exterior, but the interiors of some famous buildings have also been recreated.

Thousands of Minecraft players have contributed to the project so far, but given the amount of work that went into even this small part of New York City, d3_cent said the team is always looking for more contributors.

Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, with an incredible 300 million copies sold, and it remains one of the most popular games around despite being 15 years old, with its emphasis on creativity offering seemingly infinite replayability. Developer Mojang recently announced an end to PlayStation VR support, though the PS5 version finally released in preview form in June.
