Demolition has begun on a building dubbed Britain’s largest man cave.

Graham Wildin built the 10,000-square-foot leisure complex on Meendhurst Road in Cinderford in 2014 despite not having planning permission.

Mr. Wildin built a movie theater, squash court, casino, bar and bowling alley in the building in his backyard.

It led to a lengthy legal battle between Mr Wildin and the council, dating back to November 2013.

Forest of Dean District Council has secured the site and began demolition of the structure in May.

So far, the roof has been removed, exposing the building’s foundations and interior.

Mr Wildin did not comment on the latest developments.

After a citizen complained to the council, Mr Wildin was informed that the building was not permitted.

In November 2018, the council obtained a court order against Mr Wildin, ordering him to demolish the building by April 25, 2020.

He ignored the order and was found guilty of contempt of court.

In August 2022, he was sentenced to six weeks in prison.

The final deadline for Mr Wildin to comply expired in January 2023, triggering the final phase of enforcement action.

The council will recover the demolition costs from Mr Wildin, but the full amount has not been disclosed.
