Mikel Arteta is targeting two transfers after signing a new deal

Mikel Arteta is targeting two transfers after reportedly signing a new contract with the Emirates.

Arsenal announced on Thursday morning that the Spaniard has signed a new contract, which will keep him at the club until mid-2027.

Arteta’s new deal is reportedly worth £30million and he hopes it will end Arsenal’s wait for a Premier League title, which he has come close to winning for the past two seasons.

The Gunners were not the busiest this summer, but still managed to sign four players: Mikel Merino, Raheem Sterling, Riccardo Calafiori and reserve keeper Neto.

Arsenal have not signed a striker, despite many believing they need one if they are to beat City to the title this season.

Gabriel Jesus is not a top scorer and has struggled with injuries during his time at the club, while Kai Havertz has done well since arriving from Chelsea last summer.

Arteta signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at the Emirates until 2027.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Benjamin Sesko earlier this summer, before the striker decided to stay at RB Leipzig. It could be argued that the Gunners lack the firepower in their squad.

It appears the club agrees, with The Times reporting that Arteta wants to bring in a “unique” attacking player in the next two transfer windows.

It is unclear who that could be and the Gunners could re-sign Sesko, while the report also stated that Nico Williams and Jamal Musiala have been considered.

According to The Times, Arteta is also looking to bring in a young defensive midfielder. Despite Merino being signed this summer, Jorginho and Thomas Partey are both in their 30s and out of contract at the end of the season, meaning the midfielders could need a refresh.

With a new contract in hand, Arteta will be under even more pressure to win trophies and he will need to find a way to get there, having come so close in the past two campaigns.
