Mike Perry Launches New Hybrid Rules Dirty Boxing Championship

Mike Perry further expands his combat sports portfolio by entering the promotion sector.

On Friday, following the ceremonial weigh-in for his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul, Perry, his team at First Round Management, Josh McLean of Kanpai Media and Adam Kovacs of Karate Combat held a press conference to announce the launch of a new combat sports organization called Dirty Boxing Championship.

The organization introduces a new concept with hybrid rules that combines elements of boxing, Muay Thai and MMA.

“We envision Dirty Boxing as a visually compelling and explosive contest of wills between fighters,” Perry said in a press release. “Opponents will box the sweet science of boxing with gloves like an MMA fighter with the freedom to throw elbows like a Thai fighter. And when the action hits the ground, fighters can keep punching to finish the fight.”

“I’m so proud to be standing here with my partners because today is Dirty Boxing Championship Day and this is the moment dirty boxing became legitimate.”

Dirty Boxing competitors wear small, five-ounce gloves and fight in an 18-foot ring. Regular fights consist of three, three-minute rounds, with championship fights adding two extra rounds. Weight classes are expected to be similar to MMA with 10-pound increments.

The unique rules allow for standing elbows and ground and punching techniques, as long as the fighter is on both feet.

The organization has not yet announced a streaming platform or broadcast partner, but expects this to be arranged soon.

According to Kovacs, the first event will be held sometime in late September or October, with a “friends and family” atmosphere to get a feel for the rules and how the fights will play out.

During the press conference, Perry indicated that he would like to be promoted and fight in the promotion as long as the match-ups “make sense.”
