Mike McCarthy’s DaRon Bland injury update signals good news for Dallas Cowboys CB

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been a mess over the past two weeks. It’s something no one can hide from after back-to-back embarrassing losses at home.

While the Cowboys’ defense was a big talking point after they were run over by Derrick Henry in Week 3, the secondary was exposed in Week 2 by the New Orleans Saints and Derek Carr.

Dallas was forced to start rookie Caelen Carson after an injury to All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland required him to undergo surgery at the end of the preseason.

Bland was placed on IR, but will be eligible to return in four to six weeks.

While Carson has been solid during his time as a starter, fans are eager to see Bland compete on the other side of the field against fellow All-Pro Trevon Diggs.

Fortunately for the Cowboys and Cowboys Nation, Bland could be closer to his return than many thought. Bland returned to the sidelines for practice this week and underwent his rehab work on the sidelines.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy then revealed a further update after practice.

“We always felt like the Pittsburgh game was the point where we would get more information,” McCarthy told DallasCowboys.com. “With this mini-bye week we hope that things will get going again there.”

Having an All-Pro defense would be welcome for a struggling defensive unit, and once the Cowboys open its 21-day practice period, there will be a spark for the team.

The fourth game Bland will miss on IR is just over 24 hours away, so by the end of the week, Cowboys Nation could get the positive news they’ve been waiting for.
